Gravel sites:
suitable for camping, caravanning and camper vans. Each site has a 15amp electricity supply, a braai and a dustbin. The gravel portion of the site is 8m by 8m. For larger caravans, the caravan can be parked behind the gravel portion with the tents being pitched over the gravel area. These shady gravel sites are fantastic as if there is rain, the water drains away quickly and there is no mud on the site. For guests making use of tents with inbuilt groundsheets, we recommend bringing an additional groundsheet or piece of shade cloth to put under the inbuilt groundsheet to prevent tearing or holes. These sites are fast becoming our most popular sites. We prefer not to have more than 6 guests per site, but in order to accommodate larger family groups will allow up to 8 guests per site.

We offer all guests additional freezer space: there are two large communal freezers for guests convenience located in the laundry at the main ablution. Please no glass bottles or bread in the freezer and we recommend guests put items into plastic bags with their name on the bag. For your convenience we are able to refill you gas bottle on site.

Perhaps, most important of all – we provided assistance with siting your tent or caravan: our team of staff are on hand to assist you with setting up your site while you sit back and enjoy a complimentary cup of tea. Your holiday arrives when you begin!

Optional extra’s – to make your camping experience a little more comfortable

Safari tents:

6 m by 3m – our large cream coloured tents that most guests will have seen in the resort
these tents can be placed onto any site in the resort. Mattresses are provided (up to 6 single mattresses per tent) or beds (up to 3 beds per tent). We do not provide linen for mattresses. Our beds are proper beds – spring coil mattresses on solid bases. Linen is provided for the beds. Unless guests book our fully equipped GLAMPING option you would still need to bring all the other paraphernalia associated with camping.

On all of our sites, two of our safari tents can be accommodated. A minimum of a two night stay is required for tents to be set up.

Dome tents:
3m by 3m – smaller more compact tents.  These tents can accommodate 2 beds or 3 foam mattresses.  As they are a new edition to our accommodation portfolio prices are available on request.

Can’t camp? Or won’t camp?

Children love to go camping. It doesn’t matter if the sun is shining or if it rains. It doesn’t matter if someone forgot the can opener, if the blow up mattress goes flat during the night or if they are sent to wash the dishes at the scullery. They love it. They run free, make friends and generally get on with having a bunch of fun!

So why hasn’t your family been camping yet? We have a list of the most popular excuses and a solution… so if you are a mum (or dad) who thinks they CAN’T camp or just simply WON’T – read on!

Excuse #1: I do not share ablutions.

Solution: Mountain Splendour has a (limited) number of sites with their own private ablution facility for your family/site only.  They have different configurations of baths and showers to suit families with different aged kids.

Excuse #2: I like hot showers and despise creepy crawlies watching me.

Solution: Our private ablutions are operated by gas – instant hot water and our communal ablution block has a heat pump. We pride ourselves on spotless ablutions ~ without the creepy crawlies.

Excuse #3: We don’t have a tent.

Solution: Mountain Splendour has lots of tents for hire(especially for people like you!). They are large enough to stand up in – no crawling around on all fours trying not to put your knee into someone else’s tummy.  Each tent comfortably sleeps four people on beds but can easily accommodate up to six people on mattresses.

Excuse #4: I do not sleep on the floor.

Solution: Mountain Splendour tents are equipped with your choice of beds or mattresses. Beds come with linen. These are real beds, solid bases with spring coil mattresses.

Excuse #5: My husband and I argue when we set up camp.

Solution: Mountain Splendour’s staff will erect your tent while you sit back and enjoy a cup of tea!

Excuse #6: I don’t like camping.

My daughter tries the same reasoning at dinner time when something “new” appears on her plate. As parents we will know that this is not a valid reason for avoiding something that is good for you. And CAMPING is one of those things – YES, it really is good for you.

We look forward to welcoming you to Mountain Splendour where there is electricity and a braai on every site, a huge children’s playground, vast open spaces for them to run, ride bikes and play games, tennis courts, swimming pool, farm animals, pony rides and purpose built mountain bike trails suitable for the whole family.
